About Care

Conflict And Resolution Education

The limbic brain manages our emotions. Data has to pass through the emotional brain to access the pre-frontal cortex. If the emotional brain does not feel a sense of belonging, the chances of long-term embedded memory is very slight. CARE is about Conflict And Resolution Education. It is about Emotional Intelligence and the ability to talk about and reflect on our behaviour and find alternative ways to express our feelings.

Morning Check-In

From Grade R to Grade 12, students carry out an internal (emotional) check-in with their teacher. Using a four point scale they assess their emotional well-being before the start of the working day. This trains the students to recognise the emotion they are feeling, understand how the emotion makes them feel, regulate the emotion and use the emotion effectively.

CARE Circles

Care Circles are an integral part of the academic week. At least once a week, the class gathers in a circle and they each take a chance to share an opinion as they reflect on an issue. CARE counsellors monitor to ensure all classes carry out this vital activity.

HOOFIES (Head of our Family)

In the Primary School we make use of families. They are made up of seven students, one from each Grade and led by a Grade 7. These multi-age families meet every 10 days to give support and operate as a team.
