What is the Sun Valley Group of Schools?

The Sun Valley Group of Schools comprises of Sunbird Pre-Primary, Sun Valley Primary and Silvermine Academy: The High School. The primary school is a public school and the Pre-primary and High school are part of Silvermine Academy which is a private company. The Group also has a Music Academy, Sport Academy and Teaching Academy. The After-Care Centre is called Home Base and we have a high functioning catering centre called Birdie Num Nums.

How old is Sun Valley Primary?

As of 2020, Sun Valley Primary is be 43 years old. Over this time, our school has grown to become one of the leading learning organisations in our country. We continue to pioneer new and exciting teaching and learning systems and programmes in order to achieve our Vision. Our children leave our school well equipped, goal-orientated and able to interact effectively with others.

We can guarantee that your child will receive an excellent education during their sojourn at our school. The teachers will always be well trained, highly competent and capable. We continually make use of our results to determine our effectiveness and these results are based on multiple indicators

What facilities does the Sun Valley Group of Schools offer?

  • Swimming pool - 25m Olympic pool
  • Library - 14 000 books available, a budget of R30 000 per annum
  • Art Centre - mixed medium
  • Drama/Music - we produce musicals regularly, alternating between the Foundation Phase and the InterSen Phase
  • Sport fields - catering for hockey, soccer, netball, cricket, tennis and rugby
  • Walking Circuit - a unique 1km circuit with activity stops along the route for sit-ups, leg stretches, pull-ups, etc.
  • IT Centre - equipped with 34 computers where we teach the skills of typing, formatting, emailing and more. We are in the process of planning for a multipurpose digital centre in the coming months.
  • Digital Technology - we work predominantly with our 1:1 iPad programme in Grade 4 - 7. Our Grade 1 - 3 students use iPad banks in class.

What are our School times?

07:45 - 14:15 Monday - Thursday, and 07:45 - 13:00 on Friday’s. The first week of the Academic Year closes at 13:00 each day, and from the second week normal time of 14:15 commences. The last day of the Academic Term ends at 11:00.

When are assemblies held?

Assemblies take place almost every Friday at 08:00, alternating between Foundation Phase (Gr 1-3) and InterSen Phase (Gr 4-7). Each grade has a turn to do a short presentation. Sport announcements are made, and Sport and Cultural Awards are handed out.

How can parents get involved?

We tap into the wealth of expertise and energy of our parents through the Room Parent Programme, the Board of Governors, and Support Teams for Musicals, events and functions.

We also connect regularly through events and communcations.

What are the school fees?

Fees differ according to the various divisions in The Group. Please refer to the School Fee Model.

How secure is the School?

The field gate on Coracle Road (East Gate) is unlocked at 07:00. The gate on Corvette Road, on the Foundation Phase side (West Gate) is also unlocked at 07:00 and is controlled by a Security Guard, as well as a selected facilitator, who is on duty. Both gates are locked at 07:45 and the only access to Sun Valley Primary is through the Foyer in Brigantine Ave. SVPS and the High School children who arrive after 07:45 will have their diaries marked in the “Late Comers” column. Please do not leave your children unattended before 07:00.

Each grade has a specific collection point at the end of the day. Teachers are on duty at these points for 15 minutes at the end of the school day. Children who have not been collected at the end of the 15-minute period are taken to Home Base at a cost to the parents/guardians. Parents will need to collect them from there.

What traffic control system is in place around the schools?

Parents are requested to drive anti-clockwise around the school to drop their children off in the mornings and when collecting them after school. Coracle and Corvette Roads should be regarded as drop-and-go zones between drop-off and collection times.
